Sade – “The Moon and the Sky”. Shout out to A & J for thinking of me.

Personally, I think this is too beautiful and too sweet to ever even dedicate to someone who broke your heart. I’m not being bitter – I swear! It’s the sweetest misery; though it’s extremely sad, it’s beautiful and sweet at the same time. I picture a woman who loved with ALL of her heart – a woman who fought for love until the very end. I can actually feel the passion, the pain, and the loss in this song. I find that many “heart-break” songs don’t fully capture a person’s heartache but this song goes far and beyond to capture it. She really get’s it. It’s unbelievable how she even comes up with lyrics that are so poetically beyond this world. One listen and you’ll be hooked.

Fave quote from this song:

“Why didn’t you come get me one last time?”

Frost has some seriously sick songs on their “Melodica” album. I listen to songs like this or “Pharmacy” (impossible to find this song) or “Amygdala” when I’m trying to spark creativity for an event or idea or when I’m trying to get lost in thoughts to reflect and introspect. These songs are very emotion-evoking and they kind of take you away.

Can never get enough of “little bit” by Lykke Li. Lykke Li is a Swedish indie/electronica vocalist who I’m absolutely addicted to. Everything about her is so interesting: her voice, her style, her songs. Her voice is absolutely captivating. Some of her songs make me emotional, in a good way-can’t really explain it. I love artists who can evoke a lot of emotion through their songs. Artists like Sia, A Fine Frenzy, La Roux, and Amanda Rogers, or even The Cranberries (all-time fave band), etc. are all great examples of that. I love her artistic, funky and mysterious persona. Her lyrics are way applicable to many girls’ love lives. All of Lykke Li’s songs are very moving and super unique.  Shout out to S.M. from SD for introducing me to her a couple of years back. Loved the remix of this song with Drake (my fave crush). Looking forward to seeing her at the 9:30 club on May 15th with my two best gyals. If you like this, you may also enjoy these other songs:

  1. Sia – “Soon we’ll be found”
  2. La Roux – “Cover my eyes”
  3. Lykke Li – “Breaking it up”
  4. Nouvelle Vague – “Ever fallen in love”
  5. Bat for Lashes – “Strange Love”

I’m fully enjoying this beautiful rainy Sunday morning, here in Maryland, while jammin’ to Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning”. This is definitely one of those feel good songs that make everything okay for a little while. A great song to listen to when you want to feel present or alive. I love listening to it when I’m driving or when I’m home on a rainy day blogging away.

Let’s talk about Adam Levine for a moment. I could just fall in love with this man. It’s not just his soothing, raspy, and dynamic voice, it’s his romantic, passion-filled and poetic lyrics and his ability to have real emotions and be expressive to a woman. Here’s a small verse from this song:

Fingers trace your every outline
Paint a picture with my hands
Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm
Change the weather still together when it ends

Just these four lines, alone, show how poetic he is. These lyrics are very well thought out and could make a girl feel super special. I especially love the meaning of the last two lines above. My interpretation is that he’s expressing the idea that times do get hard but he wants to stick together through the ups and downs (the storm) and be there until the end. Maybe I’m a sucker for a good love song but I think this song is really sweet-every girl wants a guy that sticks around through the good and bad times and fights for the relationship until the end.

Beyond his voice and lyrics, I love his nerdy yet edgy and trendy persona. I also have a thing for well-groomed men; he has the perfect scruffy goatee and the trendiest hair cuts.  I bet he smells really good, too.  Also his style-If you can pull off skinny jeans (or man capris for that matter), you are my friend. I could just fall in love with this man. Okay, I’m done indulging!  Drake is still my number one crush, by the way.
